in my headcanon, Cooper didn’t realise that Kurt wasn’t a touchy-feely kinda guy until he had his arms around him already.

Kurt went rigid, just a little, with surprise - but he let Cooper hug him, because he didn’t have much choice. when Coop let go, he watched Kurt for a moment, studied him over coffee while they talked.

and then he made up his mind.

he didn’t do it often, just here and there if they were watching a movie or chatting or catching up. but he’d put a hand on Kurt’s shoulder or bump his arm, when he could. when it wasn’t obvious or obtuse. it was gradual, it was barely noticeable, but every time he visited, he’d make sure there was something.

he’d wound up on the couch with the two of them at one point, sitting in between them just to piss Blaine off (because come on, that one face Blaine makes when he’s torn between Cooper you’re a dick and must. be. polite. is hilarious) and the movie marathon played on for hours, into the night, and he was almost too caught up in Blaine’s quiet grumpy (hilarious) fuming before he realised that Kurt had fallen asleep against his shoulder.

it was the simplest thing, just a sway to the side and then there was a warm cheek pressed against the curve of his shoulder, an arm moulded to the side of his body as Kurt drifted off, completely at ease.

he ruffled his hair carefully (he’d already been warned on a previous attempt, not the hair, never the hair), and smiled to himself. by the time Blaine was snoring and curled against the cushions of the couch, Kurt had snuggled down against Coop’s side, coiled around his arm like it was a teddy bear.

Kurt never really had a big brother, but maybe Cooper was big enough for the both of them.
